the new way crazedlist works is a bit slower since it basically loads all the results pages via your internet connection. so if you select all it is basically the same as loading about 200 webpages at once. there is a good chance that doing this in most browsers will make the browser crash, or at least hang for a long long time.

Crazedlist allows you to search multiple craigslist.org sites at once. However in order to do so you must disable referrers in your web browser. Doing so prevents craigslist from knowing that you have come from this site and prevents them from blocking your results.

If you are unable to disable referrers you can try using the "Get Feeds" feature which allows you to get an OPML file of the RSS feeds for your search instead of performing a search in the web browser. To do this, close this pop up, fill out your search, then click "Get Feeds" instead of "Search".

To disable referrers in Opera follow these easy steps:

STEP 1:

In the location bar type "opera:config" and hit return

STEP 2:

Once in the Preferences Editor go to the search field and type "referrer", this will narrow the list of options to only show "Enable Referrers"

STEP 3:

Uncheck the Enable Referrers option and Save your changes.

Now close this window and try your search!

To disable referrers in Mozilla/Netscape/Firefox/Camino follow these easy steps:

STEP 1:

In the location bar type "about:config" and hit return

STEP 2:

In the filter field type "sendrefer", this will narrow the list of options to only show "network.http.sendRefererHeader"

STEP 3:

Click on network.http.sendRefererHeader and change it's value from 2 to 1

Now close this window and try your search!

NOTE: If you use the webdeveloper extension you can simply select "Disable Referers" from the "Disable" menu.

so....i made this site that does consolidated searches of your sites. seeing as though i'm the kind of dork that makes something like this first and ask questions later, it wasn't until i posted it up that i realized how much you don't like sites like mine. i understand, but i figured i paid for the domain already so i'd ride it out as long as i could and i hoped you wouldn't hate me as much since i at least didn't force people to search all of the USA -- which is retarded.

i know your mission is to create communities, and i totally love and respect that. the problem is, if i'm looking for a yamaha wr250 with a CA plate i'm willing to drive anywhere in CA to get it, or even OR or AZ. searching on 10 or more site just gets tiring. you made craigslist because newspaper classifieds are limited, i made this search because i thought going to 10 different sites and re-entering the same search is what computers are made for.

as you can see from the footer/disclaimer i have on the main pages, i have only good intentions for this site and am in no way trying to steal your users or profit from your content. i don't have any ads, don't want ads, don't care about what people search for, and i've been trying to evolve my script to reduce the load it puts on CL and protect it from exploitation.

clicking the "save search settings" sets the category and cities that you currently have selected as the default setting. when you come back to visit the site these items will be pre-selected.

Before sending emails of love and/or hate, please read the following FAQ:

Q: Can you hide or omit cities that have no results?

A: Nope, sorry. Crazedlist only generates frames that point to craigslist.org. Since the content of those frames exist on another server, there is no way to use javascript to detect what the results are. Crazedlist used to get the content directly from craigslist via perl scripts however that resulted in being IP blocked so it is no longer a vaible solution.

Q: I used your site now craigslist has blocked my IP, have you ruined my life?

A: No, you'll live. When one IP address hits craigslist a bunch of times really fast it can sometimes trigger an autoblock. This block will usually go away in 24hrs or less, so do not panic! To avoid this, try not searching ALL US cities at once.

Q: Where's Erotic Services? Are you trying to censor my need for a "massage"?

A: Erotic Services are in the personal's menu, and no i like "massages" too.

Q: How come you haven't added -insert some city or feature- to crazedlist??

A: I have better things to do than to wait for craigslist to update their crap. If there's a city or category i don't know about, email me!

Q: Why don't you have an auto select for my region?

A: I'm really bad at geography, if you think i should add or edit a region, send me an email listing out all the cities you'd want to see.

Q: Why can't you make this work for IE? Are you some kind of IE hater?

A: Why yes, i despise IE, it stinks more than my cat's ass. however hate is not my motivation, i simply cannot "make it work" for IE. Craigslist autoblocks referrals from my site, so unless you can stop IE from sending referral information, you'll get no results. That said there -may- be a way to block referrers in IE, but i haven't found it. Then again, i hate IE, and i hate windows, so i haven't really tried.

Q: Why can't you make this work for Safari? Are you some kind of Safari hater?

A: Nope, i love safari, but i have been unable to find a way to disable referrers with it. I have tried Safari Stand, but it only disables localhost referrers (whatever that is). I have a feeling there is a way to disable referrers somehow, but i've yet to find the third part app to let me do so.

Q: Are you done with this stupid FAQ?

This menu allows you to change the mode of your search between a regular search and the RSS feeds mode. Using the RSS feeds mode will result in a page that contains the text of an OPML file. The OMPL file contains a list of subscriptions that you can then import into an RSS reader. This way you can easily keep tabs on your favorite searches.
